NEARBY

Catalonia is a very rich region in many aspects. We could draw up a list of places of interest in the area but it would be a real challenge to list them all.

Because of its ideal location, Mas Martorell is close to the well known cultural sites of Catalonia, to the beautiful UNESCO natural spots as well as to sport & leisure facilities. Even if you are only here on a short visit, we will be able to suggest a number of outings adapted to your very own needs.

For your own convenience and independence, we recommend that you hire a car. A number of car-rental companies have outlets at Gerona airport (10 minutes away).

Also Mas Martorell is in the middle of a very pretty countryside well worth discovering by bicycles. These are easy to rent from local mountain bike centres.
  • Train (RENFE): station at Caldes de Malavella (5km) with connection to Gerona, Barcelona, Figueras, Tarragona, France, …

  • Busses go from the train station to the beaches or to the nearby villages

  • Taxis

  Barcelona
Capital city of Catalonia where Gaudi's colourful houses mix with Gothic-inspired constructions. Barcelona is unique: a modern European city in the midst of its historical past while benefiting from a Mediterranean way-of-life. Enjoy walking down the Ramblas from Plaza Catalunya to the port.

Take time to visit a few of the famous museums, to rest in one of the parks and to do a little shopping in the “Barri Gotic”. This great city is only one hour away from Mas Martorell by car or via a direct train.

  Gérona
This city is a rich heritage site full of historic and cultural beauty. It is the head of the province with the same name, located at the confluence of the rivers Ter and Onyar. The old city webbed with tiny streets, leads you to the Santa Maria cathedral (XIV-XVIIIth century). While crossing the Onyar walking away from the modern city, you have a full view of the colourful house fronts. Gerona is a true Catalan city and deserves your attention.

We recommend a visit to the city during the day, a late afternoon laze on a terrace followed by a typical meal at one of the local restaurants (not open before 8:30 p.m.) From the bed & breakfast, you are only 20 minutes from Gerona. It would be a pity to miss!

  Caldes de Malavella
This is a small city in the Selva region, only a five minute drive from Mas Martorell. The Romans developed Caldes because of its health & fitness virtues rather than for any strategic reason. The bicarbonate waters that spring up in this area have been used for centuries as an ideal treatment for many disorders. There are two balneotherapy centres in Caldes well worth a visit.

Beside the water asset, Caldes is also a very nice town, culturally and economically organized around its main plaza Sant Esteve. A walk down the ramblas is very pleasant.

Also, very close to Mas Martorell and to Caldes de Malavella, you will have the opportunity to improve your swing on the prestigious “PGA Golf de Catalunya”.*
